• WHAT IS MARTINIQUE LIKE?
It is the second largest island of the French Antilles, Martinique is a volcanic island and like other Caribbean islands it has beautiful sandy beaches and turquoise water, a mild and airy climate that favours a rich tropical nature and a tranquil pace of life. Fringed with beautiful coasts, Martinique offers a great variety of landscapes to discover. Almost a third of the island is covered with tropical forests; the landscapes range from rich banana, sugar cane and pineapple plantations to tranquil fisherman villages, from marvellous and wild beaches to mountain ranges (the highest point of the island is Pelee Mountain, an active volcano at 1397mt). Rich with history and culture, many interesting and historical itineraries offer the tourist days of sightseeing. Also a visit that can’t be missed is one to the many distilleries that produce one of the best rums in the world.
